NTT and DWANGO, which operates the largest video service in Japan "niconico", will stage a "Super Kabuki" show during the colossal event "Niconico Super Conference 2016" held at Makuhari Messe on April 29 - 30. Shochiku Co., Ltd. Will held in Las Vegas, between 3 - 7 May 2016, the "Japan KABUKI Festival in LAs Vegas 2016", where the "Kabuki Lion King" show will be performed. These two events mark a collabortation between kabuki and the newest ICT technologies, making it into a challenge to create a completely new form of kabuki. Since it looks like it'll be a fascinating performance, why not take a look?
NTT has been advancing research and development for people to be able to experience the immersive telepresence technology of "Kirari" that aims for the world to be felt all over the place, and using the research results, a completely new form of Kabuki performance is challenged. As a result, a collaboration between real kabuki actors and virtual 3D images, that could not have been conventionally realized, is becoming reality.
By using the technology of "Virtual Speakers", the sound seems to come from Hatsune Miku's mouth and reaches the audience, making for a strong presence and a great acoustic performace. Ah! I'd love to see Hatsune Miku-chan live!
NTT has newly developed a device, using a box-shaped paper craft, "Kirari! For Mobile", that can let you watch simple 3D images when connected to your smart phone. While watching a Hatsune Miku that emerges from inside the box right in the palm of your hand, you'll be able to taste the afterglow of this "Super Kabuki" show.
By fusing the charm of kabuki and the newest technologies, "Japan KABUKI Festival in Las Vegas 2016" aims to create a "brand new Kabuki art"!
In order to create such a fantastic show, advanced technologies are used. By using Kirari!'s object extraction technology, real time transmissions of performances has become possible. Spatial reproduction using a 4K multi-screen has also become possible! The audience can experience the feeling of being right in front of the stage, sitting around the Hanamichi (passageway to a kabuki stage). It's the first time in the world that something like this became achievable.
The illuminations create a fantasy-like show with traditional accents. The ever changing lights will achieve a innovative production!
With all these new technologies, the future looks very interesting and fun. I'm looking forward to this event! ~
