In a little town in Ōno District, Gifu, six hour drive from Tokyo, lies the Shirakawa village, famous for its beautifully preserved traditional houses. It was registered as a World Heritage Site in 1995 and has since been a popular tourist destination for Japanese and foreign travelers alike.
From this site, you can either take the bus (5mins) or walk (15mins) to an observation deck that overlooks the entire village. The buses that run to the obseravtion deck operates between 9AM to 4PM every day and comes 3 times an hour both ways, making it a very convenient access for tourists.
